Our revels now are ended. These our actors, as I foretold you, were all
spirits, and are melted into air, into thin air: and, like the baseless fabric
of this vision, the cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, the solemn
temples, the great globe itself, yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve, and,
like this insubstantial pageant faded. Leave not a rack behind. We are such
stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep.

Tonight’s the night. After six weeks of rehearsals and a lot
of behind the scenes effort by everyone, we have our preview this evening. It’s a free performance, but we’ll gratefully accept your donations to help sustain Mammoth’s
longest running community theatre group.
There something I forgot to mention in our publicity and program.
A major theme in “The Tempest” concerns the love between father and daughter. I dedicate
this show to my Dad, Robert Bruns, who passed away in December. To the actors: "Break a Leg!"

Here's some theatrical humor to start the week:
Cultivate an attitude of hostility. Tension gets results---on stage and off.
Do not listen to your fellow actors on stage. It will only throw you.
Do not look at them either---you may not like what you see.
If a line isn't working for you, change it.
Never be afraid to ad-lib to get attention, especially if you feel the leads aren't very entertaining.
Mistakes are never your fault.
Always find something to bitch about, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. Your fellow actors will respect your professional attention to detail.
Do help your fellow actors by giving them notes whenever you feel necessary.
And give the notes immediately before they go on---it will be fresher that way.
Speak your lines as if the audience had difficulty understanding the language.
Keep other performers on their toes by ridiculing their performances, and never let them know what you're going to do next.
Play the reality---always be aware of the audience and whether you think they like the show, then gauge your performance accordingly. Why knock yourself out for ungrateful snobs?
Need a character? Get a costume.
When in doubt about an ad-lib, go "whoo"!
Go up on a line? Clap twice, look at the audience, and giggle.

Hi cast!
It's hard to believe, but we have eleven regular rehearsals left before opening night! I'm really enjoying working with such a talented, fun and hardworking group of actors. We're in good shape and characters are coming along nicely, I'm headed down south this weekend and will be picking up fabrics, props and some things for the set.

Needless to say, it's time to put the pedal to the metal. I hope y'all have a fabulous weekend working on your lines
Monday 7/2: Run through complete play off book
Tuesday 7/3: Acts I-II
Thursday 7/5: Acts III-V
I may switch up the Tuesday and Thursday schedule, depending on how the run-through goes. Also, some actors are interested in putting in more rehearsal time (cool!!) so we may set up some scene work on Friday and over the weekend.
Feel free to call or e-mail if you have questions (818 424-5552). In the words of the Bard:
I have no spur
To prick the sides of my intent, but only
Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself,
And falls on th'other. . . .

We'll meet next week at the outdoor amphitheater near the Welcome Center, since it tends to be wind protected. Enter the Welcome Center parking lot from the eastern driveway, keep right and park in the lower lot. There's a dirt road on the right heading east, if you follow it, you'll find the amphitheater on the left. If someone else happens to be using it, we'll find an alternate outdoor spot nearby.

Hi everyone!
Great fun at the read-through last night. And I think we've got three good omens shining on our theatrical journey: Our very own Mammoth Tempest on Monday and Tuesday, the Venus transit yesterday and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. (Shakespeare often wrote for the queen, after all.)
Let's all work together to try to find candidates for those last two major roles, Sebastian and Antonio. Also, we need to recruit some mariners and spirits.
For those of you who didn't pick up the information sheet from auditions - here's some fine print:
